What to do after closing on your new home

What to do after closing on your new home

Congratulations on your new home!  Closing on your new home is a very exciting milestone, but before you move in, there are things that you will need to do first.

1.Change the locks.  Once you receive the keys to your new home, you will want to make sure you insert that key into all of your exterior locks.  This will re-key your locks and ensure that the previously used key doesn’t work anymore.

2.  Transfer/set up new utilities.  Ensure all utilities are transferred to your name.  This includes water, electricity, gas, waste management etc.  Make sure you have stopped these services at your previous home, the last thing that you want is to be paying for 2 homes.  We also recommend setting up services like internet, cable, and security systems all prior to moving in.

3.  Review and understand your homes warranty. We will go over all of this before you close, however, it is important for you to know and understand who to call if something were to happen.  Be sure to keep all of your warranty information in one spot.

Moving into a new home is an exciting experience. By taking these initial steps, you will ensure that your transition into your new home is both smooth and positive.
