Clean smarter, not harder!

We love a good and affective cleaning hack, and the ones in the list below every homeowner should know.  Memorize these tricks and you’ll never have to waste time or money on a cleaning dilemma again.

Mess #1:  Coffee, wine, or juice stains

White carpets, upholstery, or table linens seem to attract dark, quick staining liquids.  If you spill one of these on your new white carpet, don’t panic!  Just blot up the excess liquid, dab the stain with a paste of baking soda and water, then blot with a warm cloth.

Mess #2:  Oil spots

It might seem like there is nothing you can do once an article of clothing or a table linen gets stained with oil.  No worries, we have a way to get that peanut butter stain out!  Just sprinkle the stain with cornstarch, let it sit for 10 minutes, then shake it off.  Dab any mark that remains with white vinegar, then wash it.

Mess #3:  Streaky windows

Cleaners made just for glass, when used with paper towels, will leave mirrors cleaner than other solutions will.  But the best window cleaner is cheaper and can typically be found already at your home, plain white vinegar and dry newspapers!

Mess #4:  Spilled wax

Candles look and smell great, but if you spill the wax it can make a real mess.  If you spill wax on upholstery or your carpet, don’t rub it in.  Instead, place a paper towel over the stain, run a hot iron over the back of the towel and lift away.  The stiff wax will re-melt, the paper towel will soak up the wax, and your surface will look like the stain never happened.

Mess #5:  Stubborn soap scum

If your shower tile and doors are covered with a dull, white soap scum glaze, try this:  Warm a cup of vinegar in the microwave, add a cup of Dawn dish soap, mix and pour into a spray bottle.  Spray the scummy area, let it sit overnight, then wipe clean the next day.
