How to Clean Vinyl Siding

Even though Vinyl Siding is a low maintenance material, it still needs to be cleaned from time to time.  In humid climates especially, siding may even develop mildew or mold.  If you notice that the side of your home is looking a little dirty, no worries, cleaning your siding is fairly easy!

Scrubbing Algae and Mold Off Vinyl SIding

Hosing down Vinyl Siding with a garden hose that is equipped with a spray nozzle is often enough to remove dirt and grime.  Here are a few things to remember when doing so……

-Make sure the spray pattern is wide enough to prevent damage to the siding, and keep the nozzle moving!

-Start from the bottom and work your way up, then rinse from the top and work your way down.

Cleaning solution:  If your siding needs additional cleaning, add special cleaning solution to a pressure washer, or mix up the following in a bucket to clean by hand:

-1 gallon of water

-1/3 cup of powdered laundry detergent

-2/3 cup of trisodium phosphate cleaner

**Use a soft bristled car cleaning brush to scrub the siding with**

It is always a good idea to wear rubber gloves, long sleeves, and goggles when working with strong cleaners.

Don’t forget, we are now using James Hardie Siding on all of our homes!
