How to keep your new home new

The last thing that you want is for your brand new home to loose its new home appeal.   Here are some  “no brainer” things that you can do to keep your exterior, your walls, your carpet, your sidewalk, etc. looking brand new.

  • Invest in the necessary supplies and tools to be able to maintain your home.  If you plan to mow and maintain your own lawn, then a lawn mower, weed eater, blower, etc. are all necessary tools to be able to do so.  If you plan to clean your own home then a good vacuum, mop, cleaning supplies, etc. are all necessary tools.
  • No shoes allowed inside.  Yes it is an annoying rule, especially when you have to ask your guests to take off their shoes, but it is worth it.
  • Doormats by every door, or invest in a dropzone area!  If you can’t get on board with the no shoes allowed inside rule, make sure that you have good durable doormats.  Our dropzone areas are also great areas to put shoes, coats, etc.
  • Change your filters.  This is a very simple thing to do, but it is one of the most overlooked things as well.
  • Keep clutter away.  Invest in baskets, bins, or some kind of container to keep clutter at a minimum.  Kids can easily clean up their toys and toss them in a bin, you can store all of your blankets in a pretty basket, or use a bin to place keys/mail/etc. in.
  • Clean your siding.  There is nothing more unattractive than a home with moldy siding.  You can easily hire someone to tackle this task, or do it yourself!  All you need is a bucket of soapy water, a ladder, and some type of brush for scrubbing.
  • Repaint your shutters, fences, railing.  Anything that can be painted should be touched up when necessary!  The sun will fade those pretty blue shutters on your home, and every few years you might need to give them a little face lift.
  • Keep your bushes trimmed.  Overgrown bushes, trees, grass, etc. will take away from your homes curb appeal.  Overgrown bushes can also make your home feel darker if they are in front of your windows.

By staying on top of these simple tasks your home will look and feel like you just moved in!
